Medical Minute by Dr. James Yang / Saturated Fats Intake

Screen Shot 2014-04-14 at 11.05.33 AMA recent series of articles in the New York Times highlights the results of a major research study that challenges the idea that saturated fat intake affects cardiovascular disease. This new meta-analysis finds that all research to date, when evaluated together, provides no evidence that saturated fat intake or blood levels are associated with heart disease. My perspective has been that dietary advice needs to be personalized based on how these fats alter individual cardiovascular biomarkers given the weak evidence supporting current guidelines such as a low saturated fat diet.
